Eddie Van Halen Dissects His Playing on “Women and Children First” (Audio!)
The Final Installment of Our Day-Long 1980 Interview.
This final installment of his first cover-story interview begins with Eddie Van Halen popping in a cassette he’d just made of the guitar highlights from his band’s as-yet-unreleased Women and Children First. He then plays a snippet, stops the tape, and explains (or demonstrates on his unplugged Frankenstrat) how he created the sounds. Open, enthusiastic, and passionate about his playing, Eddie’s clearly having a great time!
If you haven't already heard them, I invite you to listen to Tapes 1 through 5 of our day-long 1980 interview, as well as some of our other conversations. They’re available here on Substack as well as on my “Talking Guitar” YouTube channel (links below). I hope you enjoy these unique recordings!
